A. History of science and technology in Indonesia.
Development of science gives a big impact in new discoveries in the field of technology. At the end of the 15th century emerged a movement aimed at developing culture and science are known with the term renaissance, a movement which wants regenerates Ancient Greek and Roman culture. Renains uphold human capabilities, or find a better way of thinking and creating. With this movement, everyone is free to think for generating new discoveries in science and technology. In addition to the renaissance movement, also emerged a movement called humanism is a movement that aims to study and develop the culture and science to be devoted to the benefit of man.

Entering the 18th century, the rapidly developing science until this century is often called the century of thought. The 18th century was a century various fields of science, whether natural science, social science, and technology. At the same time, the growth of nations and of all civilization also advanced rapidly so that by the 21st century man is capable of creating a wide range of equipment and advanced technology. Developments in science and technology that goes fast, encourages the development of a wide range of industries in many countries including Indonesia.
In Indonesia, science and technology began to evolve since the Dutch colonial era. Developments in science and technology in the Dutch colonial period was marked by the establishment of a foreign private issuer, religious and educational mission of the West. Everything that is part of economic exploitation. Modern Western technology first introduced with the technology through the sugar mill. Modernization of the technology then spread to other sectors, such as shipbuilding, coal mining, tin, gas and petroleum. B. Causative factor behind the development of science and technology in Indonesia.
Science and technology pioneered by the West in the Dutch colonial period was not yet able to enhance the scientific and technological revolution in Indonesia. During the Japanese occupation had introduced several new technologies, especially in agriculture. However, it turns out it is not much effect on the society at that time. The application of modern technology in society has focused on specific areas and largely controlled by foreign businessmen.
At that time, Indonesia is still lagging far behind Western countries in the development of science and technology. It is in them due to the following factors.
1) The limited number of Indonesian population to education.
2) The limited number of Indonesian people who were directly involved in the development of science and technology.
3) The lack of good wishes from the Dutch colonial rulers and authorities in the foreign private sector to transfer technology to the indigenous population.
4) No occurrence of industrialization.
5) No occurrence of significant technological innovation in Indonesian society itself.
